In Florida, February 2nd is officially Lantana Lou Day

Who needs Punxsutawney Phil?  Lantana Florida has it's own version of determining how much wonderful weather is remaining for the winter with their own Lantana Lou.  Instead of a groundhog, Lantana Lou is a retired Lantana politician dressed as the King of the Sea, complete with a cape, trident and huge fish.

Accompanied by a hula girl and a Bose ipod player playing bag pipes, Lantana Lou made the processional journey from one end of the Dune Deck Restaurant to the Pavilion which contained his throne.  Passing by the 75 eager onlookers, live entertainment and coffee and danish supplied by the Dune Deck, Lantana Lou took his throne promptly at sunrise.

As Lantana Lou looked across the vast expanse of the ocean with the sun brightly peeking between the clouds, he proclaimed 10 more weeks of great weather and 8 more weeks of snowbirds!

Obviously sleepy little Lantana has not been partying since 3AM like they have in Punxsutawney.
Getting anyone I know to move at 6:30 AM to arrive in time for Lantana Lou Day events was problematic, so I had to go it alone.  However, the entertainment was fun and the sunrise was fantastic!  It makes me wonder why I haven't trekked to the beach to watch the sunrise this winter before today.  This is my second Lantana Lou Day, and I am sure I will be back there again next year!
